lyns proposal

I will be using an rebel k2 camera with 28-90mm lens for all my shots.
this semester I will be experimenting with different colour filters something I have not done before, also I want to expand my knowledge of printing pictures and dark room work. We will be using fibre paper instead of RC.
I am trying to concentrate on taking pictures of the sights of Houston, I have been here 8 years and have never really looked at all the history, monuments and landscapes that this city can offer. I do not want to take basic tourist pictures but try and make them unusual and interesting; emphasising on architecture.

remember the questions i had asked you, and think of them here as well. is it important that you use a rebel k2 camera? is it important that you are able to shoot from 28mm to 90mm, as far as having an angle of view? yes, you will be experimenting with filters this semester, for your technical folder, but is that something that you will relate to your work, or explore as part of the assignment? (i would say the same for fiber paper).

these technical decisions (or assignments, in some cases) can influence your work certainly, but i am more interested in your thought process behind the work itself - what you intend to accomplish through the assignment. what draws you to the subject of tourism...is it personal? is it responding to the city, or a new environment? there is a bigger issue here at hand, and i am interested in your discovery of that.

tseng kwong chi made self portraits in tourist landmarks, such as in front of the hollywood billboard, in front of the statue of liberty, and standing alongside mickey mouse at disney, etc.... perhaps these images could give you insight into the importance/meaning of tourist landmarks. which of the ones you photograph are recognizable? and to whom do you want these landmarks to be recognizable? and finally, what specifically are you wanting to capture when shooting these locations?

I want to capture the inner beauty of Houston. I think most people see Houston as newly constructed concrete and steel, but I feel there is a heart and soul to the city and I want to bring that out in my photographs. To accomplish this, I intend to travel the city seeking out opportunities to photograph histrical houses or monuments or any other interseting sights I find.
